Probably my favorite time of 2013 so far were the 5 days we weren't stricken with some virus.
Would you even believe me if I told you Beckett was sick again? This month is sort of starting to feel like the Beach Vacation of 2012, minus the whole running-over-a-deer thing.
Timeline of recent events:
Friday 1/11: flu symptoms start
Sunday 1/13: DAY OF TERROR / ER / SEIZURE / EAR INFECTION / FLU / NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE / TRAUMATIZING OF ALL CHILDREN IN URGENT CARE WAITING ROOM / $1300 AMBULANCE RIDE WITH $52 "MISC" CATEGORY, PRESUMABLY THE COST OF THE TWO BEANIE BABIES WHO NEEDED TO BE "TAKEN CARE OF" BY THE "BIG GUY"
Thursday 1/17: follow up appointment. Ear infection is worse in one ear and starting in the other.
he took the "seizure best practices" info sheet pretty seriously. |

Friday 1/25: First play date in 2 weeks. It's a girls' night/play date combo. Very exciting stuff. Except...projectile vomiting in the car seat outside of the house. Stomach bug.
Saturday 1/26 - Tuesday 1/29: The kind of pooshrapnel one would not wish upon their worst enemies. 897 diapers down.
Wednesday (1/30): Clear again! SERENITY!! Leave the house and play like normal people!!!
Thursday (1/31): Cold.
I don't know about y'all, but I'm about ready for this flupidemic seasonal virus death trap to end.
Romanticlers
Being a parent is so unlike anything I expected. It's terrifying and awesome and funny and overwhelming and every emotion I've ever felt ever...times 1,700. I've never been more happy, more scared, more frustrated, more ____ in my life.
No one has any idea what it will be like for them with their own child and I assume it's totally different for each child, too. Right?
I made educated guesses based on what other people talked about, so I couldn't help but romanticize each stage before it happened in real life.
For instance...
"We'll get to lower the crib mattress when our precious angelface starts pulling up like a big boy!!"was really:
"Babe - we seriously have to lower the crib tonight. He's now eaten 3 of the 4 sides."
Or
"I can't wait to hear what his first sentence will be!! It's going to be amazing."was really:
"Acca-scuse me?! Did he really just say, 'SARRRAAHHH, SIT DOWWWN!!!"And
"Mack and Beckett will be best friends. Mack will probably sleep right next to the crib."was really:
"Mack's in the corner shaking. Did B try to ride him again?"We're currently entering the
"I wonder when 'terrible twos' start."which is really more like:
"If he noodle-legs in public one more time I'm exchanging him for a more emotionally stable model."Just kidding about exchanging him. (for now.)
He's way too awesome.
Plus, this is reason enough to keep him:
Wow! I can't believe how sick he's been! Hurry up and end flu season!
ReplyDeleteThe ambulance ride was $1300?? Whoa! Do u have to pay that out of your pocket or does health cover pay that? I had an under 5km ambulance trip to hospital once & got a $320 bill (I'm in Australia) and happily my basic health cover paid it. Woot woot!
